President’s Message
President’s Message
Mike Krim | AMAA, AAA President
Stepping into the role of President of the Alberta Assessors’ Association is both exciting and a little overwhelming…in the best way possible. The AAA is an organization with a strong history, dedicated members, and professionals who care deeply about the industry. It is an honour to take on this role and help lead the Association into its next chapter.
Over the past few weeks, I had the opportunity to represent the AAA at the AAOM Conference in Winnipeg, where I brought greetings on behalf of the Association and connected with assessment professionals from across the country. I’ll be honest…after taking off from Edmonton, spending a couple of hours in the sky, and landing in Winnipeg, it felt a little like I had landed right back in Edmonton: same weather, same prairie wind, just a different skyline.
A couple of highlights from the conference included a guided tour of the city hosted by Marc from the AAOM and his knowledgeable tour guide, Mirek. I also participated in a President’s panel discussing the differing approaches to assessing farmland and farm buildings across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario. It was a valuable discussion and a great reminder of both the similarities and differences in assessment practices across Canada.
Back in Alberta, the AAA Board recently wrapped up our spring in-person meetings focused on several important priorities for the Association. We had productive discussions surrounding governance work related to the Professional Governance Act, committee structure, education initiatives, and member engagement. There is a lot happening within the AAA right now, and it was valuable to have everyone together in one room to work through ideas, ask tough questions, and help map out the path ahead.
I also want to thank everyone who attended and supported the 2026 AAA Conference in Calgary. This week is always one of my favourite times of the year. The educational sessions and networking opportunities are invaluable, but so are the relationships built and the conversations that happen throughout the event. I’ve been in this industry a long time, and I continue to be proud of how knowledgeable, supportive, and collaborative our profession is. Thank you to everyone who helped make the conference such a success.
As we move forward, I encourage members to continue getting involved in the Association, whether through volunteering, participating in educational opportunities, or simply reaching out and sharing ideas. The AAA continues to grow because of the commitment and involvement of its members.
I’m looking forward to the year ahead and to working alongside all of you as we continue building a strong future for the Association and the profession.
With Appreciation,
Mike Krim | President, Alberta Assessors’ Association
