AAA offers five membership categories to reflect different stages of your career and professional involvement.

1. Accredited Membership (AMAA) – The Gold Standard

Our most distinguished designation, Accredited Membership recognizes individuals who have met rigorous education, experience, and examination requirements to earn the Accredited Municipal Assessor of Alberta (AMAA) designation.

2. Candidate Membership – On the Path to Accreditation

For individuals actively pursuing the education and experience required to earn the AMAA designation. Candidate Members work under the mentorship of an Accredited Member sponsor while building their professional skills and network.

3. Student Membership – Start Your Journey

For full-time or part-time post-secondary students interested in property assessment, valuation, or related fields. Student Membership is free and offers early access to AAA communications, events, and networking opportunities.

4. Associate Membership – For Industry Partners

For professionals whose work supports or intersects with property assessment—such as consultants, suppliers, tax agents, or educators—who are not pursuing accreditation. Associate Members enjoy access to AAA events, resources, and connections.

For former Accredited Members who have fully retired from active assessment practice but wish to remain engaged with the AAA community through communications, events, and optional volunteer roles.

The Path to Accreditation in 10 Steps

The AAA’s professional pathway helps you grow from a student or new entrant into a fully accredited professional:

  1. Student Member (optional, while completing studies)

  2. Candidate Member (gaining education and field experience under a sponsor)

  3. Accredited Member (AMAA) (achieved after meeting all education, experience, and examination requirements)
